Kargil, January 14, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today chaired a meeting to discuss the GIS-based Master Plan 2050 for Kargil.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz, Councillor Town Haji Abbas, Councillor Poyen Mohd Amin, Joint Director Finance Iftikhar Hussain, Joint Director Planning Abdul Hadi, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kargil Arifa Iqbal Lone, Executive Engineer R&B, Technical Director of the All India Institute of Local Government, Mr. Pashim Tiwari, along with other concerned officers.
During the meeting, Technical Director Mr. Pashim Tiwari delivered a detailed presentation on the GIS-based Master Plan 2050 for Kargil. The presentation broadly covered key components including Vision and Planning Objectives, Land Use Planning, Population and Housing, Transportation and Mobility, Physical Infrastructure, Social Infrastructure, Economic Development, Environmental Management, Urban Design and Built Form, Heritage and Culture, besides other important aspects of urban development.
After thorough discussions and deliberations on the Master Plan 2050, several valuable suggestions emerged during the meeting. The Chief Executive Councillor directed the Technical Director to incorporate all suggestions into the updated Master Plan and present the revised document in the next meeting to be held in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC Kargil, Mr. Rakesh Kumar.
The CEC further emphasized that the updated Master Plan document should be placed in the public domain for a minimum period of three months to invite public opinion, suggestions, and clarifications.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon stated that the planned development of Kargil is urgently required; however, it must be carried out in a sustainable manner without compromising the aspirations and interests of the local community.
