CEC Kargil Inspects Feasibility for Construction of New Building for 24×7 Urban PHC at Old District Hospital.
Kargil, January 14, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today conducted an on-the-spot inspection to assess the feasibility and technical requirements for the construction of a new building for a 24×7 Urban Primary Health Centre (PHC) at the Old District Hospital, Kargil.
Subsequently, the CEC chaired a detailed review meeting at the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Office, Kargil. The meeting was attended by Councillor Town Haji Abass, CMO Kargil, Deputy CMO Kargil, Executive Engineer R&B Kargil, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Kargil, Nodal Officer Mental Health Programme, along with other concerned officials.
During the inspection, the CEC reviewed the availability of land and other technical parameters required for the construction of the new Urban 24×7 PHC building. He directed the Executive Engineer, R&B Kargil, to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) strictly in accordance with the prescribed guidelines and norms for an Urban 24×7 PHC.
Emphasising the importance of the facility, Dr. Akhoon stated that a round-the-clock Urban PHC is essential to cater to medical emergencies within the town. He added that the steadily increasing population of Kargil town underscores the urgent need to strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure.
The CEC further assured that the matter concerning the construction of the new Urban 24×7 PHC building, along with associated infrastructure and manpower requirements, will be taken up with the UT Administration, Ladakh, and the Government of India for necessary approvals and support.
Issues related to the psychiatric ward at District Hospital Kargil were also discussed. The CEC directed the CMO Kargil to ensure food arrangements for patients and to explore manpower availability from the upcoming DSSRB recruitment. He also informed that the issue of manpower engagement on an outsourcing basis has already been taken up with the Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh.
Other genuine issues raised during the meeting were assured to be addressed in a phased manner on a priority basis.
