Republic Day celebrated in Sub Division Drass with patriotic fervor.
Kargil, January 26, 2026: The 77th Republic Day celebrated in Sub Division Drass, at Govt. Higher Secondary School Drass, today where SDM Drass, Shri Vishal Atri, JKAS was the chief guest.
The SDM unfurled the national flag at 11:00 a.m. and saluted at the march past presented by the contingent of Ladakh Police and students of various schools.
On the occasion, the chief guest wished a happy Republic Day and highlighted the importance of Republic Day and how our country became Republic by adopting Constitution on 26 November 1949 and coming into force on 26 January 1950.
Starting his speech, he said that Drass being the second coldest inhabited place on world and gateway of Ladakh, is becoming winter tourism destination and winter sports like Snow skiing, Ice hockey is getting popular day by day here. He also highlighted the beauty of Snow capped mountains surrounding Drass valley, Kargil War Memorial and how these things are attracting tourists from world wide into Drass.
He also highlighted the Importance of Zojila tunnel and said that after its opening, it will provide all weather connectivity to Ladakh that will open new employment opportunities for locals boosting tourism and also strength defence area.
He further highlighted the communal harmony of people of Drass and said that these values justify the values enshrined in our Constitution.
Later he talked about Kargil Janhit Camps that are providing a platform for self employment opportunities to local youths, winter Coaching classes and health schemes running in various villages of Drass.
Both Hon’ble Councillors of Drass along with Sub Division officers like BMO Drass, Principal Degree college Drass, NT Drass and a large number of locals including children attend this national function in bone chilling cold weather.
Before the conclusion of the event, the students who took part in the march past were appreciated with certificates and momentos by chief guest. Some officials were also felicitated with appreciation certificates for their extraordinary services in their respective field.
