Month long Road Safety Month Concludes in Kargil.
Kargil, January 31, 2026: The month-long Road Safety Month concluded today at the Conference Hall, Baroo, Kargil.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, Additional SP Kargil Ishtiaq Kacho, Incharge SE, PWD Syed Mehdi, Executive Engineer PWD Mansoor Hussain, ARTO Kargil Khadim Hussain, other concerned officers, representatives of transport unions, and students of Excellence Residential School were present.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated all departments and transport unions for successfully conducting month long awareness activities on road safety across the district. He emphasized that road safety is a collective responsibility and stated that negligence results in loss for all sections of society.
The DC informed that the district administration is actively working on decongestion measures and development of parking facilities in Kargil town and sought cooperation from the public and transport stakeholders. He urged all drivers to mandatorily use anti skid chains during the winter season to prevent road accidents.
He further stated that the PWD will identify accident prone black spots and take necessary corrective measures. He directed the department to strictly comply with Road Safety Protocols and Procedures in all works, particularly by field level engineers. The Deputy Commissioner also informed that Zojila Pass will remain open continuously, subject to safety protocols and weather conditions.
The DC also instructed the representative of the Education Department to ensure that 1 or 2 minutes of road safety awareness is included during the morning assembly in every school of the district.
Earlier, ARTO Kargil Khadim Hussain briefed the audience about various awareness programmes, campaigns, and outreach activities conducted during the Road Safety Month.
A student from Excellence Residential School also delivered a speech highlighting important road safety measures and responsible road behavior.
Meanwhile, JE PMGSY Mohd Hassan presented insights on protecting lives on roads, shared MoRTH accident data, and elaborated on the social, economic, and health impacts of road accidents, stressing the need for developing a strong safety culture.
