Culmination of Road Safety Month Organised at DIHAR Leh.
Leh, 31 January: The Transport Department, Leh, in collaboration with the Ladakh Police and various transport stakeholders, organised the culmination ceremony of Road Safety Month at DIHAR Leh with active participation from officials, drivers, and members of the public.
Shri Bhupesh Chaudhary, IAS, Transport Secretary, UT Ladakh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by Shri Altaf Shah, IPS, SSP Leh; Shri Shreeram, IPS, SP Leh; Shri Usman Khan, JKAS, Additional Secretary, Transport; Shri Rigzin Sangdup, JKPS, Additional SP Leh; Shri Fesal Iqbal Tantray, JKAS, ARTO Leh; Shri Rishab Sukhla, IPS, Dy SP Headquarters Leh; Shri Kunzes Dolma, JKPS, Dy SP Traffic Leh; along with presidents and members of various transport unions and other key stakeholders associated with road transport and safety.
On the occasion, several awareness and facilitation stalls were installed at the venue, including a medical check-up camp for drivers, a voluntary blood donation camp, and dedicated awareness stalls disseminating information on traffic rules, road discipline, and safe driving practices. These initiatives were aimed at sensitising drivers and the general public about their collective responsibility in ensuring safer roads and achieving the goal of zero fatalities.
As part of the programme, law-abiding and disciplined drivers were felicitated by the Transport Department in recognition of their consistent adherence to traffic rules and responsible driving behaviour. The felicitation served as an encouragement to the driving community to uphold road safety norms and act as role models for others.
The event also featured cultural performances and a nukkad natak (street play) focusing on road safety themes, effectively conveying the message of responsible road usage and the serious consequences of traffic violations in an engaging manner.
The dignitaries, in their addresses, emphasised the importance of strict compliance with traffic regulations, mutual cooperation among stakeholders, and sustained awareness efforts to reduce road accidents in the region. The programme concluded with a collective pledge by all stakeholders to continue working towards improving road safety standards and fostering a culture of responsible driving across Ladakh.
