The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under Mission Shakti, Leh has launched a15-day driving training programme starting from 9th February 2026. The initiative is aimed at empowering 20 women beneficiaries belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category of the district.
In view of the large number of applications received and limited training capacity, the programme is being conducted in two separate batches. The training focuses on imparting Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) driving skills to enhance women’s mobility, confidence, and employability.
The programme is being conducted by the Ladakh Women Driving Institute, where the training is imparted by a woman instructor, Ms. Tsering Angmo. This initiative stands as a strong example of women empowering women, promoting skill development, self-reliance.
The initiative aligns with broader goals of enhancing women’s safety, independence, and participation in society.Ms. Diskit Ladol, District Coordinator, DHEW Leh, while interacting with the beneficiaries, encouraged them to utilise the training opportunity to its fullest potential. She emphasised that acquiring driving skills not only enhances mobility but also strengthens women empowerment by promoting self-confidence, independence, and livelihood opportunities. She further highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in enabling women to become self-reliant and active contributors to society.
