Leh, February 20: Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Lok Niwas, Ladakh today under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative.
The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme, launched by the Government of India, aims to celebrate Unity in Diversity by pairing States and UTs for year-long cultural, linguistic, educational, and tourism exchanges to foster national integration and people-to-people connections. Similar Statehood Day celebrations for all States and UTs are being held today at Lok Bhavans and Lok Niwas across the country to strengthen emotional bonds between different regions.
Both Arunachal Pradesh, known as the Land of the Rising Sun, and Mizoram, celebrated for its vibrant culture and rich wildlife, attained statehood on February 20, 1987, marking key milestones after years of regional struggles.
Commissioner/Secretary to the Lt Governor, Dr L Franklin, who is also from Mizoram, highlighted the rich history of both states. He cited the bloodshed and insurgency faced by Mizoram’s people in their struggle for statehood, calling it a special day and thanking everyone for participating.
Video messages from Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram, Gen (Dr) VK Singh (Retd), and Hon’ble Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt General Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik (Retd), were played. A video showcasing must-see destinations of Mizoram was also screened.
Under Secretary Shri Sachin Bali conducted the proceedings.
Security personnel from Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh serving in Ladakh, along with staff from LG Secretariat and Lok Niwas, attended the celebrations.
