The University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology(TDU), Bangalore has organised a felicitation program on the eve of Indian Medical Heritage Day celebrations on 19 February 2026 to honour Dr Padma Gurmet, Director, National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa on his selection for the prestigious Padma Shri Award by Govt of India. The token of appreciation was presented by Her Highness Smt. Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, Queen of Mysore in presence of Prof. Darshan Shankar, Vice Chancellor of the University, Registrar, Faculty members, Students and eminent guests present on the occasion. Another Padma Shri awardee 2026, Prof. N. Punniyamurthy, retired professor and expert in Ethno-Veterinary from Tamil Nadu was also felicitated during the event.
The program started with welcome speech by Prof. Darshan Shankar, Vice Chancellor, TDU, he highlighted the contribution of Dr Padma Gurmet and Prof N. Punniyamurthy for preservation and promotion of traditional medical heritage of India in their respective fields. Her Highness Smt. Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, Queen of Mysore congratulated both the recipient of Padma Shri award and narrated about the contributions of Mysore royal family for preservation and promotion of Indian Knowledge Systems. Both Dr Padma Gurmet and Prof N. Punniyamurthy give presentation on their long journey in the field of promotion of traditional medicine and thanked University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology, Bangalore for the honour.
