    Department of Horticulture, Leh Conducts One-Day Awareness-cum-Training Programme on Pruning and Pest Management.
    The Department of Horticulture, Leh organized a one-day awareness-cum-training programme on Pruning and Pest Management at Chemday in Kharu Zone on 25th February 2026. Around 100 farmers from
    Kharu, Sakti, and Chemday actively participated in the programme. The event was conducted in presence of Smt. Kunzang Wangmo, Chief Horticulture Officer, Leh, and Dr. Sonam Dawa, Horticulture
    Development Officer, Leh, along with field staff of the department.
    During the programme, detailed lectures and practical demonstrations on scientific pruning techniques, canopy management, identification of major pests, and adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices were carried out to enhance participants’ understanding of proper orchard management. Emphasis was laid on sustainable and safe plant protection measures suited to Ladakh’s agro-climatic conditions.
    Horticultural tool kits were also distributed among the participating farmers to support the effective implementation of the techniques demonstrated during the training.
    The programme was organized as part of the Department’s continuous efforts to strengthen the technical knowledge and skills of local farmers. By promoting scientific and modern horticultural practices, the initiative aims to improve orchard productivity, enhance fruit quality, and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
