COTPA Enforcement Drive in Kargil Market: Inspection Team Issues Challans, Warns Against Tobacco Violations.
Kargil, February 28, 2026: A team comprised of members under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), conducted a comprehensive inspection of various shops in the main market Kargil today.
The inspection team was headed by District Nodal Officer NTCP, Dr. Fatima Nissa, District Consultant Masood Ahmad NTCP and included representatives from Police Station Kargil, the Drug Inspector, Food Inspector, Sales Tax Inspector, Municipal Committee Inspector, and a Social Worker (NTCP).
During the inspection, the team did not find Cool Lips, which was recently banned as per official orders. However, challans (penalties) were issued to violators found selling loose cigarettes and displaying nicotine products.
Shopkeepers are hereby warned to remain vigilant and are instructed to strictly comply with the orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil. Any violations will invite strict action.
Additionally, the sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of any educational institution is strictly prohibited, and violators will be dealt seriously under the provisions of COTPA.
