Leh, March 12: Lieutenant Governor-designate of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, received a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee (KBR) Airport, Leh today. Senior officials, representatives of political and religious organisations and a large number of common citizens gathered at the airport to welcome Shri Saxena to Ladakh.
Among those present to receive Shri Saxena were Chief Secretary, Shri Ashish Kundra; Director General of Police, Ladakh, Shri Mukesh Singh; Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shri Romil Singh Donk; Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh, Shri Shree Raam; BJP State President, Shri Tashi Gyalson Khachu, along with representatives from various political, social and religious bodies. They extended their greetings and conveyed their best wishes to Shri Saxena as he prepares to assume the office of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena is scheduled to take oath as the fourth Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh tomorrow, March 13, 2026, at 12:30 PM at the Arya Nagarjuna Auditorium Hall of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Choglamsar. The oath of office will be administered by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli.
Shri Saxena will succeed Shri Kavinder Gupta, who recently assumed charge as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena was accorded a warm farewell at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, by senior officials and well-wishers before his departure for Ladakh to assume his new responsibilities. A number of senior officials, political leaders and members of civil society groups gathered at the airport to accord a warm send-off to Shri Saxena, while recalling their close association with him for the last four years. A Delhi Police contingent accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour to Shri Saxena at the IGI Airport.

Notably, Shri Saxena’s tenure at Delhi is marked with several structural and policy reforms to optimise the functioning of the government organisations and precise on-ground execution of his vision that resulted in the creation of several open public green spaces, rejuvenation of polluted Yamuna floodplains, restoration of decaying heritage sites and a massive aesthetic upgrade of the National Capital.
