    The Department of Horticulture, Leh organized a Farmers' Training Programme on Pruning and Pest Management of Orchards at Chilling village to enhance farmers' knowledge on scientific orchard management practices.

    The Department of Horticulture, Leh organized a Farmers’ Training Programme on Pruning and Pest Management of Orchards at Chilling village to enhance farmers’ knowledge on scientific orchard management practices. Around 60 farmers from different villages including Sku, Kaya, Tsogsti, Ezangs and Sumdha actively participated in the programme. The training aimed to build the capacity of farmers in adopting proper pruning techniques and effective pest management practices to improve orchard productivity and fruit quality. During the programme, In-charge Horticulture Development Officer, Leh, Shri Tsering Ngodup delivered a detailed lecture on the importance of scientific pruning, timely pest control measures, and proper orchard sanitation. He also introduced various horticulture schemes of the department and encouraged farmers to avail the benefits of these schemes for the development of their orchards. The programme also included practical demonstrations by departmental field staff on pruning techniques and orchard sanitation practices and horticultural tool kits were also distributed among the participating farmers to support the effective implementation of the techniques demonstrated during the training. The farmers appreciated the initiative and expressed their interest in adopting improved horticultural practices in their orchards. The Department of Horticulture reaffirmed its commitment to continue organizing such training programmes to strengthen the horticulture sector and support the livelihood of farmers in the region.
