ADC Kargil Reviews Cleanliness Drive, Calls for Coordinated Sanitation Efforts.
Kargil, March 16, 2026: Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS) convened a meeting today to review and strengthen the ongoing cleanliness drive in the district.
During the meeting, the ADC emphasized the importance of maintaining sanitation and cleanliness across the district and directed all concerned departments to prepare and implement a proper schedule for cleanliness drives in their respective jurisdictions, including Panchayats, Divisional Headquarters and urban areas.
The ADC instructed all Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to convene meetings with religious heads and community leaders in their respective divisions so that they can spread awareness among the public, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, regarding the importance of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
He remarked that although people generally keep their homes clean, many tend to dispose of garbage in streets and public spaces, which pollutes the surroundings and creates sanitation issues. He stressed that collective efforts are required to ensure that public places and streets remain clean and hygienic.
The ADC further directed the concerned departments to ensure that construction materials placed along highways, link roads and other public roadsides are removed at the earliest so that commuters and the general public do not face inconvenience. He instructed that such materials be cleared without delay and without waiting for formal notices in order to maintain smooth public movement.
Furthermore, the ADC noted that although awareness campaigns are carried out from time to time, the situation often returns to the same state after a few days, stressing the need for sustained community participation and continuous awareness efforts.
The meeting was attended by officers from various departments including Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Kargil, Chief Engineer Vijayak, Tehsildar Kargil, District Panchayat Officer (DPO), Executive Engineer Public Works Department (PWD), Executive Engineer Public Health Engineering (PHE), Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kargil, all Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) including Tehsildars, Assistant Director National Informatics Centre (NIC) and Assistant Director Information Department. Some officers participated through video conferencing.
