Leh, April 16, 2026: Ladakh Sonamling Tibetan Settlement Committee incollaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh organised a special event to mark the Year of Compassion and honor the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
The occasion featured a distinguished address by Geshe Lhakdor La, Director of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, who emphasized the importance of compassion, love and mindfulness in today’s world.
The program commenced with the arrival of the esteemed guest, followed by a warm welcome from college authorities, including Principal In-Charge AP Zuhoor Hussain and IQAC Convener AP Raziya Parveen, who greeted Geshe Lhakdor La with traditional Khatas.
The event was officially inaugurated with a lamp lighting ceremony led by the dignitaries with Convener AP Hajira Bano, HOD Department of Mass Communication and Journalism inviting students for a welcome song.
The event began with the lamp lighting ceremony followed by a welcome song by the students. A welcome address was delivered by Mr. Kunzang Deachan, Organising Committee of Ladakh Sonamling Tibetan Settlement, highlighting the significance of compassion in fostering peace and harmony.
In his keynote speech, Geshe Lhakdor La shared profound insights, stating, Mental health includes love and compassion, which must be cultivated and practiced throughout life. Geshe Lhakdor beautifully emphasized that compassion and love are not mere emotions, but conscious choices that shape a peaceful and meaningful life. He highlighted that true compassion arises when we recognize our shared humanity and the interconnectedness of all beings.
Love, according to him, is expressed through kindness, patience, and understanding, even in the face of differences. He urged everyone to cultivate a compassionate heart, as it not only brings inner peace but also creates harmony in the world around us.
The event proceeded with a Question & Answer session. The ceremony was hosted by Hajira Bano, Hod Mass Communication & Jourmalism and concluded with a vote of thanks by IQAC Convener AP Raziya Parveen and a felicitation of Geshe Lhakdor La for his inspiring presence.
