    Kargil, May 02, 2026: A Jan Bhagidari Programme focusing on tuberculosis (TB) awareness and elimination was successfully organized in Kargil as part of the nationwide campaign aimed at achieving a TB-free India.
    The programme was graced by Hon’ble Member of Parliament Haji Hanifa Jan as the Chief Guest, while Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar attended as the Guest of Honour. The event also witnessed the presence of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), In-charge SSP, senior TB specialists, healthcare professionals, and ASHA workers.
    The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Fatima Nissa, TB Specialist, who formally welcomed the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. She highlighted that the initiative is part of a 100-day nationwide campaign being implemented across India to strengthen TB elimination efforts. She elaborated on targets and achievements related to TB Preventive Treatment (TPT), stating that the programme aims for 100% coverage, with priority focus on vulnerable groups including hostel residents, workers in tunnel areas, and other high-risk populations.
    Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble MP Haji Hanifa Jan stated that the programme reflects the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has launched several transformative initiatives for public welfare, including the Jan Bhagidari Programme. He emphasized that public awareness and participation are key to eliminating TB. He stressed that with coordinated efforts and active involvement of the community, the disease can be eradicated. He further highlighted the important role of religious leaders in spreading awareness and motivating people, stating that social messaging through such platforms can significantly contribute to elimination efforts.
    Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar, IAS, emphasized the importance of early detection and timely treatment. He urged the public to remain vigilant and proactive in identifying symptoms at an early stage. He informed that the District Hospital is equipped with three AI-enabled X-ray machines, which will strengthen screening and diagnostic capabilities. He further stated that the administration will intensify screening drives at workplaces and group settings, as identified by the health department, to ensure wider coverage.
    The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that the District Administration will extend full support to all TB elimination initiatives. He remarked that awareness at the individual level can create a ripple effect, stating that if one person educates 10–15 others, it can significantly accelerate the elimination process. He called for collective efforts from all sections of society to achieve the goal of a TB-free district.
    The Chief Medical Officer, in his address, emphasized the importance of coordinated action among all stakeholders and reaffirmed the commitment of the health department towards the mission of TB Mukt Bharat.
    The programme concluded with a strong message of collective responsibility, highlighting that through sustained awareness, early detection, and community participation, the goal of eliminating tuberculosis can be successfully achieved.
