CEC Kargil Chairs High-Level Review Meeting for Sacred Buddha Relics Exposition in Zanskar.
Kargil, May 08, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon today chaired a review meeting to assess the preparedness and logistical arrangements for the upcoming holy exposition of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha in Zanskar.
During the meeting, the CEC emphasized that the exposition is a moment of immense pride for Zanskar and called for close coordination and cooperation among all concerned departments and stakeholders from Zanskar to ensure the successful conduct of the mega spiritual event.
He stated that the exposition is not only a major religious occasion but also a unique opportunity to showcase Ladakh’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage on the global stage.
Executive Councillor Er. Phunchok Tashi also addressed the meeting and highlighted the religious, cultural, and historical importance of the sacred exposition. He stressed the need for collective efforts, proper coordination among departments, and timely execution of all arrangements to ensure that devotees and visitors receive all necessary facilities during the event.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, briefed the meeting regarding the preparations and shared previous experiences related to the management of mega public events. He emphasized that all departments must work in close coordination and ensure timely completion of their assigned responsibilities. He further directed concerned officers to maintain constant monitoring of preparations and ensure that all arrangements are executed efficiently for the convenience and safety of devotees and visiting dignitaries.
Deputy Commissioner Zanskar, Omkar Rajendra Gundage, and SP Zanskar Rigzen Sandup briefed the chair regarding the status of ongoing preparations and the arrangements being put in place for the smooth conduct of the exposition.
He informed the meeting about the preparation of a comprehensive list of guests, VVIPs, and official representatives. To streamline movement and ensure effective coordination, specialized proximity passes will be issued to authorized personnel and dignitaries.
The SP Zanskar highlighted the security arrangements from the “security point of view,” stating that the deployment of a robust security force and strict enforcement of law and order would remain top priorities during the event.
On logistics and infrastructure, it was informed that dedicated motorcades and vehicle fleets are being organized to facilitate the movement of the holy relics and visiting delegates.
The CEC directed the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department to ensure uninterrupted water supply at the main venue and adjoining locations.
Dr. Akhoon also directed the Deputy Commissioner Zanskar to ensure adequate public amenities, including extensive barricading, dedicated parking facilities, sanitation arrangements, medical preparedness, and proper venue decoration to manage the anticipated influx of devotees.
Highlighting the importance of community participation, the CEC stressed the active involvement of local stakeholders, volunteers, and civil society members to enhance the spiritual experience of devotees and maintain the sanctity of the event venues.
President Zanskar Buddhist Association (ZBA) Tsering Dorjay also spoke during the meeting and assured full cooperation and coordination from the community for the successful conduct of the holy exposition. He highlighted several local-level issues and requirements related to accommodation, transportation, crowd management, and civic facilities, and urged all departments to work collectively to address them in a timely manner.
