Eleventh Evening of Cultural Celebrations Fills Leh Main Market with Music and Festive Spirit
The eleventh evening of the cultural celebrations being held in connection with the Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha brought vibrant colours, traditional performances and a festive atmosphere to Leh Main Market, drawing large numbers of residents, devotees and visitors from across the region.
Organised by the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala, the celebrations are being conducted under the theme “Peace Beyond Borders” to commemorate the 2569th Vesak Purnima.
The evening programme began with the traditional offering of Lharna, setting a spiritually uplifting tone for the cultural festivities.
The audience witnessed a series of captivating performances representing the rich artistic traditions of Ladakh. Artists from the Northen Institute of Performing Arts (NIPA) Cultural Group presented the graceful Shondol Dance, while the Tsechu Lamo Group from Skit-Tsal-Ling, Chushot, presented a special tribute celebrating the legacy of the Nightingale of Ladakh, late Ama Tsechu Lamo. The LIKA Cultural Group from Changthang showcased the vibrant Zabro dance, reflecting the unique cultural heritage of the nomadic region.
Adding further charm to the evening, renowned local artists Padma Dolkar, Tsewang Dolma, Tsering Disikit and Dorjey Youdon mesmerised the audience with soulful Ladakhi folk songs that resonated across the market square.
The cultural evening concluded on a high note with a lively musical performance by Shri Tundup Dorjey Stakmo, whose evergreen Ladakhi melodies captivated the gathering. Young artists Padma Yangchan and Rigzin Dorjey also delivered energetic performances, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. Audience members enthusiastically clapped, sang along and danced to the music, while crowds of youngsters and visitors gathered around the stage, turning the venue into a vibrant celebration of community and culture.
As the Sacred Relic Exposition continues to attract devotees and visitors from across India and abroad, the parallel cultural programmes at Leh Main Market are evolving into an important platform for promoting Ladakh’s cultural heritage while celebrating the broader message of peace, harmony and unity. The cultural celebrations will continue every evening until May 13, 2026.
