Kargil Hosts Awareness Programme for CWSN; DC Assures Support, Highlights Upcoming Special School Facilities.
Kargil, May 13, 2026: A counselling and awareness programme for Children With Special Needs (CWSN) and their parents was organized by the Education Department Kargil in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department at the Conference Hall of CEO Office Baroo, Kargil.
The programme witnessed the participation of more than 50 CWSN students and parents, while 49 students were registered during the session. Deputy Commissioner Kargil interacted with the children and their parents and assured full support from the District Administration for the welfare, education and rehabilitation of specially-abled children in the district.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted various initiatives being undertaken by the District Administration for establishing a Special School for CWSN students in Kargil. He said that the institution aims to provide education, therapy, counselling and rehabilitation facilities under one platform for specially-abled children.
He informed that the hostel facility for the Special School is presently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of July, with accommodation capacity for around 30 to 40 children. He further stated that trained doctors, DDRC staff, Special Educators, Physiotherapists and counsellors will be available at the institution to provide services including speech therapy, physiotherapy and other specialised treatments. He also informed that assistive aids and equipment would be provided through ALIMCO and other supporting agencies.
Stressing the importance of early detection and timely intervention, the Deputy Commissioner said that identifying disabilities at an early stage can significantly help in treatment and rehabilitation. He urged parents to openly support their children and ensure their enrollment in the Special School so that they can benefit from the facilities being created by the Administration.
He also requested parents to spread awareness among other families having specially-abled children and motivate them to avail the services being provided.
District Education Planning Officer (DEPO) Kargil, Mr. Ajaz Ahmad, briefed the participants about the importance of the Special School and appealed to parents for their cooperation in making the initiative successful.
Mr. Mohd Shabir, Coordinator Samagra Shiksha, highlighted various initiatives being undertaken by the Education Department under Samagra Shiksha for the welfare and education of CWSN students.
District Social Welfare Officer Kargil, Mr. Sarwar Shahzad, appreciated the efforts of the District Administration in strengthening support systems for specially-abled children in Kargil.
Mrs. Nahida Banoo, Master Trainer Special Education, DIET Leh, attended the programme as counsellor and conducted counselling sessions for parents and students along with Special Educators working under Samagra Shiksha. She emphasized the importance of parental support, home-based care and early counselling for the overall growth and development of children with special needs.
The programme concluded with appreciation for the efforts of all departments, officials, Special Educators, ALIMCO team members and parents for their active participation and cooperation in making the event successful.
