Kargil, May 15: Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department, UT Ladakh, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary today reviewed the progress of infrastructure projects being executed under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) across Kargil district at Conference Hall Baroo, Kargil.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, PWD Ladakh, Superintending Engineer PMGSY Ladakh, Superintending Engineer PWD Kargil, Executive Engineers of R&B Division Kargil, Sankoo and Zanskar, besides Assistant Executive Engineers and Assistant Engineers.
During the meeting, the Secretary reviewed the physical and financial progress of ongoing CRIF road and bridge projects along with PMGSY works being executed in different parts of the district. Detailed discussions were held on project timelines, work progress, bottlenecks and measures required to ensure timely completion during the current working season.
He laid particular emphasis on accelerating works in remote and strategically significant regions including Zanskar, Drass, remote areas of the Batalik sector in Shakar Chiktan subdivision, and far-flung areas of Sankoo subdivision, where improved road connectivity remains critical for accessibility and socio-economic development.
Highlighting the importance of road infrastructure in remote and mountainous areas, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary said that improved connectivity is essential for ensuring better access to healthcare, education, essential services and livelihood opportunities in underserved regions of Ladakh. He stressed that focused attention must be given to projects aimed at connecting remote villages and habitations.
The Secretary also reviewed the status of PMGSY projects and directed concerned officers to ensure effective planning, timely execution and close coordination among field agencies. He stressed that all PMGSY works should be completed within stipulated timelines while maintaining prescribed quality standards.
Expressing concern over pending liabilities, the Secretary emphasized timely clearance of work-done liabilities and submission of updated financial details. He further directed engineers and field functionaries to undertake regular site visits and closely monitor the pace and quality of works to ensure timely resolution of issues on ground.
Reiterating the Administration’s commitment towards strengthening road infrastructure across Ladakh, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary said that all executing agencies must work with greater efficiency, accountability and coordination to ensure completion of projects within timelines for the larger public benefit.
