    Kargil, May 20, 2026: A meeting regarding implementation and monitoring of Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026 in urban and rural areas of District Kargil was held under the chairmanship of Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Ghulam Mohd in his office chamber on Thursday.
    During the meeting, various aspects related to solid waste management, sanitation measures, waste disposal mechanisms, and implementation of SWM guidelines were discussed in detail. The ADDC stressed upon the concerned officials to ensure proper coordination, public awareness, and effective execution of waste management practices for maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability across the district.
    The chair further emphasized the importance of developing a practical sense of responsibility among the younger generation regarding cleanliness, discipline, mutual respect, and community participation. He directed the concerned stakeholders to encourage awareness-based activities and practical learning approaches so that students and youth actively contribute towards building a clean and responsible society.
    The meeting was attended by District Panchayat Officer Kargil, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kargil, Panchayat Account Assistants from Kargil and Sankoo Blocks, Project Engineer PMAY-U MC Kargil, and City Mission Manager (NULM) MC Kargil.
    The ADDC reiterated that collective efforts, timely action, and active public participation are essential for strengthening waste management systems and ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment in the district.
    The Office of the ADDC shall formulate a format for the identification of households, establishments, Army locations, industrial units, garbage points, and hotels in both urban and rural areas of the district. Further, the ADDC reiterated the need for preparation of a comprehensive Solid Waste Management (SWM) plan for both rural and urban areas of the district.
