    Kargil, May 23, 2026: The Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, held a significant and productive meeting with the Hon’ble Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju. The meeting provided a vital platform to advance the developmental interests of the Kargil region and its people.
    During the interaction, CEC Dr. Akhoon held a detailed discussion with the Union Minister regarding the implementation of central minority welfare schemes and their tangible benefits for the people of the Kargil region, including its newly created districts.
    Dr. Akhoon emphasised the need for effective outreach and timely delivery of these schemes across all districts of the region, so that the minority communities receive their full and rightful entitlements under the Government of India’s programmes.
    The CEC also placed strong emphasis on the immense tourism potential of the Kargil region, urging the Union Minister to extend the benefits of central schemes and investments to the newly formed districts as well, so that tourism infrastructure, connectivity, and promotion are developed uniformly across the entire region. Dr. Akhoon highlighted that the Kargil region, with its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and strategic location, holds the potential to emerge as one of the foremost tourist destinations in the Union Territory of Ladakh, thereby generating employment and economic opportunities for the local population at large.
    Both dignitaries also discussed matters of mutual interest pertaining to the overall development and welfare of the Kargil region. The CEC apprised the Union Minister of the evolving administrative landscape following the creation of new districts, and sought constructive intervention and enhanced policy support from the Ministry to ensure that development reaches every corner of the region in an equitable and timely manner.
    The meeting was held in a cordial and positive atmosphere. CEC Dr. Akhoon expressed confidence that the Union Minister’s support and guidance would prove instrumental in accelerating the pace of development across the Kargil region and ensuring that the benefits of central government programmes reach the people of the districs in a meaningful and effective manner.
