    Leh, May 26, 2026: The final day of Ladakh Astro Week 2026 concluded today at the Tourism Department Compound, Leh, bringing together science enthusiasts, students, tourists and local residents for an evening dedicated to astronomy, culture , and the wonders of Ladakh’s dark skies.
    The concluding programme featured insightful talks by astronomers, researchers and cultural practitioners, alongside interactive activities, astrophotography displays and telescope-guided night sky observation sessions.
    The event featured the screening of the film “Nomads Under the Stars”, which marked the beginning of the evening programme. The film showcased the cultural heritage, traditional astronomical practices and lifestyle of Changthang’s nomadic communities, offering audiences a deeper understanding of Ladakh’s connection with the cosmos.
    Mr. Tsering Gurmet, Project Coordinator at the Jungwa Foundation, shared insights into the research and documentation process behind the film and the foundation’s efforts to preserve the indigenous knowledge systems of the region.
    Independent researcher and filmmaker Mr. Anmol Tkoo conducted a session on “Lessons in Cultural Astronomy from Elders of Changthang”, where he reflected on traditional wisdom, oral histories and celestial observations passed down through generations in the Changthang region.
    Mr. Padma Ishey, Astronomy Ambassador from the Hanle Dark Sky Reserve (HDSR), also addressed the gathering and highlighted the role of local youth in promoting astronomy outreach, dark-sky preservation and sustainable astro-tourism in Ladakh.
    Visitors enthusiastically participated in interactive stalls, solar viewing activities, astrophotography exhibitions and telescope-guided stargazing sessions, making the final day of the festival both educational and memorable.
    The successful conclusion of Ladakh Astro Week 2026 marked another important milestone in promoting astronomy awareness, scientific learning and cultural astronomy in the region. The festival further strengthened Ladakh’s recognition as one of the world’s leading destinations for astro-tourism and dark-sky experiences, while inspiring curiosity and appreciation for both science and heritage among people of all ages.
