Administrative Secretary reviews preparations for ‘Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jhalvayu’ mega campaign.
Leh, May 29, 2026: Administrative Secretary, Social & Tribal Welfare Department, Nidhi Malik, today convened a virtual meeting to review preparations for the celebration of the “Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jhalvayu” mega campaign scheduled to be held from June 1 to June 5, 2026, culminating with a Special Gram Sabha on June 5, observed as World Environment Day.
During the meeting, the Secretary apprised officials about the special activities planned under the campaign and discussed the day-wise schedule to be implemented across the districts. The activities include pre-campaign assessment of cleanliness and plantation drives, awareness generation on solid waste management, and identification of Bulk Waste Generators.
Director, Rural Development Department, Sajad Qadri, gave a detailed presentation highlighting the background and strategic vision of the campaign. The presentation also covered thematic focus areas, monitoring mechanisms, documentation and reporting procedures, expected outcomes, follow-up action plans, and various special campaign activities under “Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jhalvayu.”
The concerned Deputy Commissioners also provided updates regarding the preparations and implementation strategies being undertaken at the district level for the successful conduct of the campaign. They also shared district-specific action plans and emphasised community participation for achieving the objectives of the campaign in a time-bound manner.
Addressing the meeting, Secretary Nidhi Malik stressed upon implementing the campaign in mission mode with a focus on three major themes: water conservation, waste management, and cleanliness & plantation drives. She emphasised coordinated efforts among departments and active community participation to ensure the success of the campaign and to promote sustainable environmental practices at the grassroots level.
The meeting was attended virtually by Deputy Commissioner, Sham; Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar; Deputy Commissioner, Drass; Deputy Commissioner, Nubra; Deputy Commissioner, Kargil; Director, Rural Development Department (RDD); District Panchayat Officers (DPOs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs) of various blocks.
