Administrative Secretary RDD visits Stok Model Village, reviews Development and Beautification Plans.
Leh, June 1, 2026: Administrative Secretary, Rural Development Department (RDD), UT Ladakh, Ms. Nidhi Malik, today visited Stok Village, identified for development as a Model Village under the directions of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, to review the progress of ongoing developmental works and assess future infrastructure and beautification initiatives.
The Administrative Secretary inspected the recently renovated water storage pond in Stok Village and reviewed its storage capacity, functionality, and benefits to the local community. She also visited the site proposed for development of another water storage pond and assessed the progress and requirements for its execution.
During the inspection, former Councillors, Nambardars, villagers, and officials apprised her of the need for adequate safety measures, proper storage arrangements, and installation of protective gates for the proposed pond. Ms. Malik also inspected village roads, streets, stairways, and other public infrastructure identified under the Model Village initiative, reviewing their present condition and requirements for further improvement and beautification.
Officials present during the inspection suggested that the water storage facility has the potential to be developed as an attractive public and tourist-oriented space through appropriate beautification and landscaping measures. Discussions were held on enhancing the overall aesthetics of the area, improving pedestrian access, reducing steep gradients, strengthening inlet and outlet structures, and incorporating RCC-lined components wherever required to ensure durability and functionality.
Ms. Malik sought details regarding the existing drainage and culvert systems and interacted with local residents to understand their developmental priorities and requirements. She was informed that the pond serves as one of the primary sources of water storage for the village. Stressing the importance of timely execution, she directed the concerned officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) at the earliest and establish clear timelines for implementation.
The Administrative Secretary also inspected the completed pond and reviewed its storage capacity, utility, and benefits to the local community.
Later, a detailed presentation was made by the Rural Development Department on the proposed beautification and infrastructure development plan for Stok Model Village. The presentation included conceptual designs for roadways, pedestrian pathways, public spaces, village signage, viewpoints, wayside cafés, and other amenities aimed at enhancing the village’s aesthetic appeal and tourism potential.
Reviewing the proposals, Ms. Malik emphasized the need for proper planning, realistic costing, and timely preparation of DPRs. She directed the concerned engineers and officials to undertake necessary measurements, finalize project requirements, and initiate preparatory work without delay. She further instructed that all proposals be streamlined and prioritized to ensure effective implementation under the Model Village initiative.
The Administrative Secretary also inspected roads proposed for widening and improvement and stressed the importance of plantation drives along road corridors to enhance the village landscape and create a greener environment.
During the visit, she was accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Leh; Block Development Officer (BDO), Chuchot; engineers and officials of the Rural Development Department; village representatives, including Gobas and Nambardars; and other concerned officers.
