    Drass, June 02, 2026: As part of the ongoing Swachh Gaon Surakshit Jalvayu Campaign, the Deputy Commissioner of Drass, Imteeaz Kacho today visited the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Centre near Lamochan Bridge to take stock of the functioning of the facility and assess the progress of waste management initiatives being undertaken in Drass District. He was accompanied by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Vishal Atri.
    During the visit, the Block Development Officer, Drass, Dr. Mohd. Amin Naqvi, briefed the Deputy Commissioner about the operational procedures of the SWM Centre, including waste collection, segregation, processing, recycling and disposal mechanisms. Detailed information was also provided regarding the measures being taken to ensure scientific management of solid waste and to promote environmental sustainability across the Block.
    The Deputy Commissioner inspected various sections of the facility and reviewed the arrangements made for proper handling and processing waste. He emphasized the importance of community participation, source-level segregation of waste, and adherence to Solid Waste Management Rules for maintaining cleanliness and safeguarding the environment. He also stressed on the need for sustained efforts towards cleaning water bodies and various locations in the District.
    The event witnessed active participation of Nambardars of various Panchayats of Drass Block, senior citizens, Panchayat representatives and local residents. Participants were sensitized about the objectives of the Swachh Gaon Surakshit Jalvayu Campaign and the collective responsibility of citizens in preserving a clean and healthy environment.
    The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the Rural Development Department and all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the campaign. He urged the public to continue supporting cleanliness drives, adopt proper waste segregation practices and contribute towards making villages cleaner, greener and environmentally sustainable. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the various initiatives taken in the past for turning Drass into a living model of hygiene and cleanliness. He urged the citizens to extend full cooperation for making the ongoing campaign successful.
    The visit concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to strengthen solid waste management practices and promote environmental awareness throughout the District.
