Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse Organised at Residential Hostel Khaltse.
Khaltse, June 2, 2026: An awareness programme on drug abuse was organised at the Residential Hostel, Khaltse, on June 1, 2026, with the objective of educating students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promoting a healthy and responsible lifestyle.
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS). She was accompanied by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Khaltse, Mohd. Sharif; Block Medical Officer, Dr. Jawad Ahmad; Principal GHSS Khaltse, Tsewang Paljor, Incharge SHO, Skarma Angchuck; and Adolescent Health Counsellor, Disket Angmo.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the serious consequences of drug abuse and urged students to stay away from narcotic substances. She emphasised that drug addiction adversely affects physical and mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. She encouraged students to adopt positive habits and make informed choices to build a healthy and successful future.
During the programme, Incharge SHO Skarma Angchuck, Vice Principal Thinles Angmo, and Adolescent Health Counsellor Disket Angmo also spoke on various aspects of drug abuse, its detrimental effects, and the importance of awareness, prevention, and early intervention among youth.
The event was attended by the Vice Principal, hostel wardens, and students.
Following the programme, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the boys’ and girls’ hostels of the school. She reviewed the functioning of the hostels, examined the meal menu, and interacted with students to understand their concerns and requirements. She also inspected the ongoing construction work of the new hostel building.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by students and staff to work towards a drug-free society and to spread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse within the community
