KVK Nyoma Conducts KHET BACHAO ABHIYAN Programme at Vibrant Village Tsaga.
Nyoma, June 4, 2026: As part of the ongoing KHET BACHAO ABHIYAN 2026, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nyoma, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, Nyoma, organized an awareness-cum-demonstration programme at Tsaga village, one of the highest farming villages in India, to promote sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices among farmers of the region.
Situated at an altitude of approximately 15,000 feet above mean sea level, Tsaga is among the highest inhabited farming villages in the country. The programme witnessed active participation from 42 farmers, including village representatives, reflecting the growing interest of the local farming community in sustainable agriculture and natural farming practices.
The programme was attended by officials and technical experts from KVK Nyoma and the Agriculture Department, including Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, Head, KVK Nyoma; Dr. Tashi Dolkar, Subject Matter Specialist, KVK Nyoma; and Mrs. Nawang Palkit, In-charge Agricultural Extension Officer, Nyoma.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Phuntsog Tundup emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices to improve agricultural productivity while conserving natural resources. He highlighted the need to strengthen farmers’ resilience against the challenges posed by climate change and the fragile ecosystem of the high-altitude region. He also encouraged farmers to make use of scientific technologies and government-supported initiatives for enhancing farm productivity and sustainability.
The programme focused on generating awareness regarding sustainable farming practices, efficient soil nutrient management, natural farming techniques, protected cultivation technologies, and various government schemes available for the benefit of the farming community. Technical experts interacted with the farmers and addressed their queries related to crop production, soil health, and farm management under the challenging climatic conditions of Changthang.
A practical field demonstration on the preparation and application of Jeevamrit, a natural bio-enhancer used in natural farming, was conducted during the programme. Farmers were provided hands-on training on its preparation, benefits, and application methods for improving soil health and reducing dependency on external agricultural inputs.
To encourage the adoption of eco-friendly agricultural practices, vegetable seedlings and neem oil were distributed among the participating farmers.
The programme forms part of the nationwide KHET BACHAO ABHIYAN 2026, which aims to promote sustainable agriculture, soil health management, and conservation of natural resources. The participating farmers appreciated the efforts of KVK Nyoma and the Agriculture Department for bringing scientific knowledge, practical demonstrations, and extension services directly to the farming community in the remote border region.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Angchuk, popularly known as Master Angchuk, who expressed gratitude to the organizing departments and urged farmers to actively adopt sustainable agricultural practices for the long-term benefit of the region.
The participants collectively reaffirmed their commitment to building a productive, resilient, and environmentally sustainable agricultural sector in Changthang.
