    Khaltse, June 12, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), today chaired a meeting in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Sham, with concerned departments and stakeholders to discuss the growing menace of drug abuse and strategies to effectively address and prevent drug-related issues in the district.
    The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Sham, Aijaz Malik (JKPS).
    Other attendees included the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Liker; Principal, Government Degree College Khaltse; Block Medical Officer, Khaltse; Block Development Officers of Khaltse, Skurbuchan and Singaylalok; Principal, Government Higher Secondary School Khaltse; Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Khaltse; Zonal Education Officer, Khaltse; Station House Officer, Khaltse; Panchayat Inspector, Saspol; President, Namberdar Association Sham; Vice President, LBA Sham; Namberdar, Khaltse; President, Merchant Association Khaltse; Cultural President of Zhunu Tsogspa Khaltse, Vice President, Zhunu Tsogspa Khaltse and the Muslim member of Achinathang.
    During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on the increasing concern of substance abuse among youth and the need for coordinated efforts by government departments, educational institutions, community leaders and civil society organizations to combat the issue.
    The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of awareness campaigns, community participation, regular monitoring and strict enforcement measures to curb the spread of drug abuse. She stressed that collective action and sustained public engagement are essential to safeguard the younger generation and promote a healthy, drug-free society.
    DC Sham directed the SDM Liker to conduct awareness campaigns on drug abuse at the sub-divisional level. She also instructed all concerned departments to organize awareness programmes at the earliest to educate the public, particularly the youth, about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to spread awareness about the toll-free emergency number 112 in every villages of Sham District.
    The Superintendent of Police Sham briefed the participants on the prevailing drug abuse scenario and highlighted the need for intensified awareness campaigns and greater community involvement to tackle the issue effectively.
    The President of the Namberdar Association Sham shared his views on the issue and assured full cooperation and support for the initiatives being undertaken by the District Administration Sham. The Vice President of LBA Sham also spoke on drug-related concerns and emphasized the need for collective action to address the problem.
    Various stakeholders shared their views and suggestions regarding preventive measures, awareness initiatives, rehabilitation support and strengthening coordination among departments and local communities.
    The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to intensify efforts at all levels to address drug-related challenges and promote awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse across the district.
