ADDC Leh Assesses Requirements for Smooth Muharram Observance.
Leh, June 16: Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Leh, Rigzin Spalgon JKAS, chaired a meeting at the VC Room of the DC Office, Leh, to assess requirements and review arrangements for the smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram 2026.
Discussions focused on preparations for the Muharram programme, which will be observed from the 1st to the 14th day of Muharram. Representatives raised various requirements, including uninterrupted power supply, medical assistance, and deployment of an ambulance at the Main Market for a week to ensure emergency healthcare support during the observance.
The meeting also reviewed arrangements for Ashura prayers, including the venue for Namaz, bathroom facilities, water supply, and other essential conveniences for devotees. Security arrangements, including deployment of police personnel and magistrates, along with volunteers and PA systems near Balkhang, were also discussed to ensure smooth coordination and crowd management.
Transportation arrangements, including E-bus services for Shey, Thiksay and Phyang, as well as parking and daily service coverage from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram, were reviewed.
Special arrangements for the women’s gathering at Palam on Ashura (10th Muharram) were also discussed, including provision of water tankers, portable toilets, medical facilities, bus services, media coverage, electricity connection, dustbins and PA systems. A representative from Skampari additionally requested power backup from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram.
ADDC Leh took note of all requirements and directed the concerned departments to ensure timely coordination and necessary arrangements for the safe and smooth observance of Muharram.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Medical Officer, Leh; Assistant Superintendent of Police, Leh; Traffic Inspector, Leh; Executive Engineer, PHE; Executive Engineer, PDD; Assistant Executive Engineer, R&B; Forest Range Officer; Municipal Committee representative; Health Department representative; Presidents and Vice Presidents of different religious organisations ; General Secretary of the concerned religious committee; and other stakeholders.
