Department of Agriculture Organises PM Kisan Utsav Diwas at Drass.
Drass, June 20, 2026: Deputy Commissioner, Drass, Imteeaz Kacho, attended the PM Kisan Utsav Diwas organized by the Department of Agriculture, Kargil, at the Conference Hall of Tourist Dak Bungalow, Drass, on the occasion of release of the 23rd installment of PM-KISAN for 2026 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India from Tarakeshwar, Hooghly in West Bengal.
Councillors of LAHDC-Kargil, Abdul Samad and Abdul Wahid; Ashiq Hussain Basharat, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kargil; Mohd. Hussain, Assistant Soil Chemist, Kargil; Mohd. Abdullah, Assistant Agrostologist; Mohd. Hassan, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Drass; Mohd Abbas, SMS (DL), Kargil and Stanzin Idong, Agriculture Extension Officer were also present on the occasion. The event witnessed presence of more than sixty farmers from District Drass.
The guests and participants witnessed the transfer of the 23rd instalment of PM-KISAN benefits to 1,004 eligible beneficiaries of Drass District.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the Agriculture Department’s efforts in promoting organic farming in the Union Territory of Ladakh including Drass District. He advised the farmers to cultivate organic vegetables, consume their nutritious produce within their families and bring more organic produce to the market to fetch better returns and enhance their income. He also urged the farmers to avail maximum benefits under departmental schemes such as the Ladakh Greenhouse Scheme. Further, he pointed out the need for developing a warehouse (mandi) in Drass, in the long run, for sale and purchase of agriculture and horticulture produce.
The Deputy Commissioner also requested the Chief Agriculture Officer to organize agricultural exhibitions and outreach campaigns in Drass District to create greater awareness about the beneficial schemes being implemented by the Department of Agriculture.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner issued PGS Organic Scope Certificates to the villages of Goshan and Muradbagh (under LAC) and Trongjan, Drass, Ranbirpora and Bhimbat (under PGS) and handed them over to the respective Nambardars.
Earlier, under the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan, Officers of the Agriculture Department imparted training and created awareness among farmers regarding the balanced use of fertilisers, adoption of organic and natural farming practices, and utilization of departmental schemes such as the Ladakh Greenhouse Scheme and vermicomposting units. Demonstrations and guidance were also provided on the preparation and use of natural farming inputs such as Ghan Jeevamrit and Jeevamrit. The officers encouraged farmers to actively adopt organic farming practices.
Grievances and issues raised by the farmers were also heard during the programme. Some concerns were addressed on the spot, while others were noted for further consideration and necessary action by the higher authorities.
