CEC, MP Ladakh Review Muharram Arrangements Across Kargil Town; Direct Departments to Ensure Seamless Services During Processions.
Kargil, June 24, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, accompanied by Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shabbir Hussain, and Additional Superintendent of Police Kargil, Mohammad Ali, today conducted an extensive inspection of key locations in Kargil town to review the arrangements being made for the observance of 9th and 10th Muharram processions.
The inspection covered the Mini Taxi Stand, Anjuman-e-Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Ashariya Kargil (AJUIAK)/Islamia School premises, Hussaini Park, Qatilgah, the procession routes passing through the main market, and various medical camps established for the occasion.
The visiting delegation assessed the preparedness of various departments and reviewed arrangements related to sanitation, drinking water supply, health services, traffic management, security, and other essential facilities for the smooth conduct of the Muharram processions.
The inspection was attended by the Joint Director and Chief Controller Finance, Superintending Engineers of PHE and I&FC, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kargil, Tehsildar Kargil,Assistant Director Information, Executive Engineers of R&B and PHE, DySP HQ, DySp Traffic, along with officers from the Health, PDD, Municipal Committee and other concerned departments.
During the visit, Dr. Akhoon expressed satisfaction over the preparations made by the District Administration and directed the concerned departments to ensure cleanliness and sanitation in and around the AJUIAK premises, Hussaini Park, Qatilgah and along all procession routes. He stressed the importance of maintaining hygienic conditions and uninterrupted civic services for mourners and the general public.
The CEC also inspected the medical camps established at various locations and reviewed the healthcare arrangements put in place for the processions. He directed the Health Department to ensure adequate deployment of medical personnel, medicines, ambulances and emergency response facilities throughout the observance period.
In view of public safety, Dr. Akhoon directed the Superintending Engineer, R&B Kargil, to provide temporary protective shielding over Kabaddi Lungma to safeguard against any possible debris fall. He also appealed to the public and volunteers to avoid unnecessary movement in the vulnerable area and to strictly follow safety advisories issued by the authorities.
Emphasizing the importance of collective efforts, the CEC urged the representatives of AJUIAK and IKMT Kargil to extend full cooperation to the Administration for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Muharram processions. He further directed the Police Department to ensure robust security arrangements and effective traffic management across the town during the observance.
Dr. Akhoon underscored the need for close coordination among religious organizations, volunteers and government departments to facilitate seamless service delivery and ensure the convenience of participants during the 9th and 10th Muharram processions. He also instructed the Health, Municipal Committee and PHE Departments to make comprehensive arrangements for healthcare services, sanitation and uninterrupted drinking water supply.
Member of Parliament Mohmad Haneefa Jan also directed the concerned officers to maintain close coordination with volunteers of AJUIAK and IKMT to ensure effective implementation of all arrangements and the smooth conduct of the religious events.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shabbir Hussain, informed that all necessary arrangements have been put in place in line with established practices and assured that every effort is being made to ensure the Muharram processions are conducted smoothly, peacefully and without inconvenience to the public.
