    The Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), today chaired a meeting in the Conference Hall of the DC Office, Sham, to review and strengthen the implementation of the ban on Single-Use Plastic (SUP) and measures to curb littering across the district.
    The meeting was attended by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Likir; Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars of Sham District; Principals of all Government Higher Secondary Schools; Headmasters of all Government High Schools; Block Development Officers; the Range Officer, Forest Department, Khaltsi; and other concerned officers. Also present were the President, LBA Sham; the President of the Namberdar Association along with all Namberdars of Sham District; the Vice President of the Merchant Association, Khaltsi; and representatives of other associations involved in disseminating information to villagers.
    The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for regular inspections, awareness campaigns, and enforcement drives to prevent the use of banned plastic items and curb littering in public places. She stated that strict action, including the imposition of penalties, would be taken against any violations of the Single-Use Plastic ban.
    She also directed the R&B Division to ensure the provision of separate toilet facilities for labourers at construction sites to maintain proper sanitation and hygiene. Further, she requested the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), the Namberdar Association, the Merchant Association, and other community organisations to actively disseminate information among villagers about the harmful effects of single-use plastic, encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives, and support the administration in ensuring effective implementation of the ban.
    The Deputy Commissioner further urged educational institutions, market associations, Panchayati Raj Institutions, and the general public to actively contribute towards maintaining a clean and plastic-free environment by adopting proper waste management practices and promoting environmentally friendly alternatives.
    The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all departments, community organisations, and stakeholders to work together for the effective implementation of the Government’s directives and to make Sham District cleaner, greener, and free from single-use plastic
