    Directorate of Economics & Statistics Leh celebrates National Statistics Day.
    Leh, June 29, 2026: The Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Leh, today celebrated National Statistics Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned statistician Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.
    The programme was organised to highlight the importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation.
    Assistant Director, Sonam Tundup delivered the welcome address and emphasised the significant role of statistical data in evidence-based governance and developmental planning.
    Director, Economics & Statistics, Tsewang Gyalson, in his address, reiterated the growing importance of statistics in day-to-day life and highlighted the role of innovations and modern tools in the field of statistics. He emphasised the importance of evidence based decision making and stressed the need for efficient and accurate statistical data collection for better governance and policy planning.
    Joint Director Planning, Tsering Angdus, in his address, highlighted the development of modern statistical systems in India. He also underlined the importance of accurate and reliable data for effective planning, monitoring, and implementation of government programmes.
    Similarly, Joint Director, Abdul Hadi, spoke on the significance of statistical systems in developmental planning.
    Officials and staff members of the Directorate participated in the celebration and reaffirmed their commitment towards strengthening the statistical framework.
    The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Assistant Director, Konchok Sherap, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, officers, officials, and participants for their active presence and valuable contributions towards the successful celebration of National Statistics Day.
