    Deputy Commissioner Sham Visits Lamayuru, Kanji, Hiniskut and Bodhkharboo.
    The Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), conducted an extensive tour of Lamayuru, Kanji, Hiniskut and Bodhkharboo on 29 June 2026 to review the status of public services and developmental works in the area. The visit also covered Hiniskut and Bodhkharboo, two villages that have recently become part of Sham District following the announcement of the five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
    The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the Executive Engineer, R&B; Block Development Officer; Block Medical Officer; Assistant Executive Engineer, I&FC; Zonal Education Officer; and Child Development Project Officer.
    At Lamayuru, the Deputy Commissioner was warmly welcomed by the Nambardar and local villagers. She visited the Community Hall and interacted with the public, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness and creating awareness about the ban on Single-Use Plastic (SUP) and littering. She informed the gathering that violations of the notified rules may attract penalties as per the applicable regulations. She also inspected the Government High School, Medical Sub Centre and Anganwadi Centre (AWC) and reviewed the functioning of these institutions.
    At Kanji, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Government Middle School, where she interacted with students and teachers and encouraged them to adopt a mentorship approach to improve learning outcomes. She also stressed the importance of spreading awareness about the ban on Single-Use Plastic (SUP) and preventing littering, informing the public that violations are liable to penalties under the prescribed rules. She inspected the Medical Sub Centre and Anganwadi Centre, and later visited Kanji Monastery, where she interacted with monks and local villagers. She also visited a stall set up by the Kanji Women’s Self-Help Group, showcasing locally manufactured products, and appreciated their efforts in promoting local entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
    During her visit to Hiniskut, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Medical Sub Centre and interacted with villagers at the Community Hall. She created awareness regarding the ban on Single-Use Plastic (SUP) and littering, informing the public that violations may attract penalties under the law. She listened to the concerns of the villagers regarding public services and developmental needs and assured them that the issues raised would be examined and taken up with the concerned departments.
    At Bodhkharboo, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the Government High School, where she interacted with the teaching staff and encouraged them to adopt a mentorship approach to improve students’ learning outcomes. She also emphasized the importance of the ban on Single-Use Plastic (SUP) and maintaining a litter-free environment, reiterating that violations are punishable under the prescribed rules. She further inspected the Medical Sub Centre, the under-construction Guru Statue, the Monastery, and the Museum, where she reviewed the progress of ongoing works and interacted with local residents.
    During the public interaction, Shri Padma Dorje, Councillor, Bodhkharboo (Stakchey–Khangral), along with the Nambardar and villagers, participated in the programme and expressed their gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for visiting the village, reviewing developmental works, and listening to the concerns of the local people.
    Throughout the tour, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to strengthen education, healthcare, sanitation, infrastructure and effective public service delivery. She directed all concerned departments to ensure the timely completion of developmental works and the prompt redressal of public grievances.
    The visit reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance, improving public service delivery and ensuring inclusive and balanced development across Sham District.
