Cooperative Department Kargil Establishes SHG Outlet to Boost Local Livelihoods.
Kargil, July 02, 2026: The Cooperative Department, Kargil, in collaboration with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), has established a Cooperative Outlet to provide Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with a dedicated platform to showcase and sell their products.
The initiative has been undertaken under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Rakesh Kumar. The Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Department, Dr. Sarwar Shahzad, also played a key role in establishing and promoting the outlet.
The primary objective of this initiative is to empower SHGs by enhancing their market access, increasing product visibility, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local artisans and entrepreneurs.
The outlet has been operating successfully for the past three to four months and is located at a prime site near Gandhi Park, Baroo. Additionally, another Cooperative Outlet has been established at Kharul, making it easily accessible to the public. A wide range of quality products made by SHG members is available for purchase at these outlets.
The department has appealed to the general public to visit these outlets, support SHG members by purchasing their products, and encourage local entrepreneurship. Such support will not only promote locally made goods but also strengthen livelihoods and contribute to the overall economic development of the community.
