The Agriculture Department, Leh, organized a Farmer Awareness and Training Camp at Ney Village on 15 July 2026 to promote sustainable agricultural practices and improve farmers’ knowledge of various government initiatives and modern farming technologies.
During the programme, the Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, Leh, delivered an awareness session on the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) and Organic Farming, with special emphasis on the Integrated Farming System (IFS) as a sustainable approach to enhancing farm productivity and resilience.
Ms. Tsering Dolkar, Agriculture Extension Officer, Leh, delivered a lecture on the Ladakh Greenhouse scheme and highlighted the importance of Micro Irrigation Systems for efficient water management. She also explained various methods of compost preparation and conducted practical demonstrations on mushroom cultivation and the preparation of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, and Agniastra, which are important inputs used in natural farming. Also distributed Mushroom spawn to the interested farmers of Ney village.
The participating farmers actively attended the training programme. However, many farmers were reluctant to adopt the new technologies and farming practices being promoted by the department. The department encouraged them to gradually adopt these sustainable practices by demonstrating their long-term economic and environmental benefits and assured them of continued technical guidance and support.
