A Breeder Awareness Camp under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) was conducted today at Himya village, Nyoma. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Mohd Sadiq, alongside attending experts Dr. Tundup Namgyal, Dr. Asif Hussain, and Dr. Mohd Abbas.
During the interactive session, local villagers formed focus groups to identify their primary challenges in sheep and goat rearing, with doctors and officials from the Sheep Husbandry Department, Nyoma, actively participating in these group discussions. Dr. Asif Hussain addressed these core focus group themes, highlighting strategic roadmaps aimed at doubling the sheep and goat population in UT Ladakh.
Following the group presentations, Dr. Tundup Namgyal addressed the compiled concerns, offering practical strategies to minimize complications and boost productivity. As part of the technical sessions, Dr. Mohd Abbas delivered a detailed lecture on common small ruminant diseases, providing crucial management tips. Additionally, Dr. Mohd Sadiq emphasized using locally available manure as an eco-friendly, cost-efficient way to improve soil fertility and pasture development for better livestock well-being.
The camp saw active participation from local breeders, who engaged with officials to learn about modern rearing techniques and government support initiatives. The successful program concluded with tea and lunch served to all the participants.
