Drass Administration & Ex. Servicemen Welfare Trust Organise Friendly Volleyball Tournament to Mark Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Drass, July 18, 2026: In the run-up to the Kargil Vijay Diwas, the District Administration, Drass, organised a friendly Volleyball Tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, Drass, in collaboration with the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Trust (ESWT). The tournament was aimed to promote sportsmanship and unity among the civil administration, police, ex-servicemen and other participating organisations as well as foster a sense of nationalism.
The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS), Superintendent of Police, Drass, Ishtiyaq Kacho (JKPS), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Drass, Vishal Atri (JKAS), Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Abdul Samad; Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Abdul Wahid; Block Medical Officer, Dr. Sajjad Hussain, Station House Officer (SHO) Drass, Inspector Mohammad Abdullah, Zonal Physical Education Officer, Mohammad Ishaq; Zonal Education Officer, Mohammad Ibrahim, besides officers from various Government departments, police personnel, ex-servicemen and a large gathering of sports enthusiasts. The tournament saw a large number of spectators.
Four teams representing the District Administration, Police Administration, Ex-Servicemen Welfare Trust (Drass) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), Drass participated in the friendly tournament. The opening match was played between the District Administration and Ex-Servicemen, while the second match was played between the Police Administration and PGCIL. The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police captained their respective teams.
The winners of the two matches which qualified for the final were Ex-Servicemen and PGCIL. The final match was a high-octane contest played in a highly competitive and friendly manner. The team of Ex-servicemen ended up winning the final match but the PGCIL team put up an impressive show.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Imteeaz Kacho appreciated the participation of all the teams and said that such sporting events strengthen mutual coordination, teamwork and harmony. He paid rich tributes to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War. Further, he said they the forthcoming Kargil Vijay Diwas will be all the more important and special from the perspective of creation of the new District of Drass earlier this year.
Th Deputy Commissioner assured that such sporting events will become a permanent and routine affair in Drass. The District Administration expressed gratitude to the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Trust (ESWT), Youth Services & Sports Department, Police Department, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) and all other stakeholders for their cooperation in making the event a grand success.
Superintendent of Police Ishtiyaq Kacho (JKPS) also appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of sports in promoting discipline, physical fitness, unity and cooperation among different departments and the youth. He highlighted the need for organising similar events continuously.
The tournament concluded with the felicitation of the winning team aith plant saplings and appreciation of all participating teams for their outstanding sportsmanship, making the event a memorable part of the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations.
The Deputy Commissioner also took the opportunity to urge youth of Drass to stay away from drugs and channelize their energies into sports. He also reiterated the need to keep Drass clean through implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules.
