Government Model Degree College Zanskar Organized an Interactive Session on Floral diversity exploration and its Conservation.
The Department of Botany, GMDC Zanskar successfully organized an interactive session with Dr. Kuldip Singh Dogra Scientist, Botanical Survey of India, Solan under the supervision of Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi (Principal GMDC), today in the College Auditorium. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Principal, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, who warmly welcomed the distinguished resource person, BSI team, faculty members, and students. In his address, he highlighted the importance of such academic interactions in broadening students’ scientific outlook and strengthening their understanding of biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability. He appreciated and encouraged students to actively engage with experts from premier scientific institutions.
The keynote session was delivered by Dr. Kuldip Singh Dogra, who shared his vast knowledge and field experiences on ecology, invasive alien plant species, biodiversity conservation, traditional ecological knowledge, climate change, and environmental impact assessment. He emphasized the significance of conserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and inspired students to contribute towards scientific research and environmental stewardship.
The session concluded with an engaging interaction, during which students and faculty members posed several questions on plant taxonomy, biodiversity documentation, conservation strategies, and career opportunities in botanical sciences. Dr. Dogra addressed the queries with insightful explanations, making the programme highly informative and inspiring.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Abdul Hadi, Assistant Professor (Botany) and Coordinator of the programme. He expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Kuldip Singh Dogra for his enlightening lecture and valuable interaction with the students. He also thanked Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal, for his constant encouragement and support, along with the faculty members, students, and organizing team for their active participation, which contributed to the grand success of the event.
