6th LG Cup Horse Polo Championship Kicks Off at International Horse Polo Stadium, Drass.
Drass, July 21, 2026: The much-awaited 6th Edition of the LG Horse Polo Cup (2026) was inaugurated today at the International Horse Polo Stadium in Drass jointly by Director, FCS&CA/Joint Director, Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi; Deputy Commissioner, Drass, Imteeaz Kacho and Superintendent of Police, Drass, Ishtyaq Kacho.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Drass, Vishal Atri; Councillor Bhimbat, Abdul Wahid and Councillor Ranbirpora, Abdul Samad apart from Block Medical Officer, Drass, Dr, Sajjad Hussain; Principal, Government Degree College,Drass, Nasir ul Mehdi Shabani; District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Kargil, Abid Hussain; Executive Engineer, REW/PMGSY, Drass, Zakir Hussain and various heads of Departments and officials of District and Police Administration of Drass District. It also witnessed the presence of sports enthusiasts and people from all walks of life along with a large gathering of spectators.
The tournament commenced with immense enthusiasm and traditional fervour marking yet another milestone in the promotion of Ladakh’s rich equestrian heritage and adventure sports. The guests witnessed the exciting match between Sapi and Yulbu.
Director, FCS&CA/Joint Director, Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi highlighted commitment of the Department of Youth Services & Sports towards promoting indigenous sports and extending continued support for horse polo and other traditional games across Ladakh. He lauded the efforts of all participants, organizers and stakeholders for making all the requisite arrangements for the tournament.
Deputy Commissioner, Drass, Imteeaz Kacho thanked the Department of Youth Services & Sports for the sincere efforts and appreciated the hard work of all officials and teams for making the facilitating the inaugural ceremony and the first match of the tournament. He expressed delight about the efforts towards preserving Ladakh’s traditional horse polo and highlighted the importance of such events in promoting tourism, youth participation and cultural heritage. He urged the civil society of Drass to witness the games from 21st to 27th July and assured that the District Administration is committed towards extending full support to make the tournament a grand success. He also express the desire to take organize the tournament at a grander scale in the coming years.
Superintendent of Police, Drass, Ishtyaq Kacho encouraged young people to actively participate in sports, emphasizing the values of discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship. He encouraged the young horse polo players to continue with their passion.
The opening ceremony featured a ceremonial march-past and introduction of the participating teams, followed by the inaugural match witnessed by a large gathering of spectators. The tournament is expected to showcase exciting competition while strengthening Drass’s identity as a hub for traditional sports and cultural tourism.
A total of eighteen (18) Men’s Teams and four (4) Women’s Teams from different parts of UT Ladakh are participating in this prestigious UT-level championship, showcasing the rich sporting culture and passion for horse polo in the region.

1st Match:
Sapi Polo Team vs Yulbu Drass
🏆 Sapi Polo Team emerged victorious by 5–3 goals.
2nd Match:
Indus Chushot vs Thongsal
🏆 Indus Chushot secured a convincing victory by 14–0 goals.
3rd Match:
Kundik PT vs Polo Panthers Goshan Blue
🏆 Kundik PT won the match by 3–0 goals.
The championship aims to promote the traditional sport of polo, provide a platform for emerging riders and strengthen the sporting spirit among youth across Ladakh. The organizing committee extended its gratitude to all participating teams, officials, volunteers and polo enthusiasts for their valuable support and cooperation in making the event a grand success.
