DC Drass Chairs NCORD Meeting to Strengthen Anti-Drug Measures.
Drass, July 22, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS) today chaired a meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) in his office chamber to review the District’s preparedness and to strengthen coordinated efforts to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police, Drass, Ishtyaq Kacho (JKPS); Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Drass, Vishal Atri (JKAS); Block Medical Officer, Drass, Dr. Sajjad Hussain; Principal, Government Degree College, Drass, Nasir Shabani; Principal, Government Higher Secondary, School, Drass, Safoora Bano; Principal, Government Higher Secondary School, Bhimbat, Tashi Ghylsan; Zonal Education Officer, Drass, Mohammad Ibrahim; Forest Range Officer, Drass, Mohammad Ilyaz; and ITBF Check Post Officer, Sanjay Arya apart from a representative of the Agriculture Department.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized close inter-departmental coordination, regular random inspections by District Police, strict enforcement of the NDPS Act, prevention of illegal cultivation of narcotic plants and enhanced awareness programmes in educational institutions to protect youth from drug abuse. He directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination to ensure a drug-free Drass.
He reiterated the need for involving civil society, religious leaders, ambassadors, students and celebrities to start a campaign against the menace of drug abuse. He directed the Principals of the Degree College and Schools as well as the Zonal Education Officer to have skits on drug abuse prepared and performed in the markets and other places to spread awareness. He also said that one of those skits can also be performed during the Independence Day celebrations this year.
The Superintendent of Police highlighted the steps being taken by the Police and suggested that all concerned Departments should put in their best efforts to supplement the efforts of the Police.
Emphasis was laid during the meeting over the need for developing playgrounds in all villages of Drass, providing opportunities to youth to show their talents, to keep them busy in extra-curricular activities and keeping a close watch on youngsters who appear to be depressed and aloof.
