Kargil, July 28, 2026: Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Altaf Hussain, attended the grand finale of the Kargil District Football League 2026 as the Chief Guest at the Astro Turf Ground, Kurbathang, Kargil.
The league, organised by the Kargil Football Association under the affiliation of the Ladakh Football Association, concluded with an exciting championship match between Real Lona FC and United Football Club Gongma. Displaying an outstanding performance, Real Lona FC defeated United Football Club Gongma by 3–0 to lift the prestigious Kargil District Football League 2026 trophy.
The tournament, which commenced on July 18, witnessed the participation of 14 elite football teams from across Kargil district. Over the course of several weeks, the league showcased exceptional sporting talent, competitive spirit, and growing enthusiasm for football among the youth of the district.
The grand finale was attended by Councillor Taisuru Mohd Hadi, Councillor Shargole Mohd Jawed, Kargil Football Association President Hani Hanief, and representatives from NHPC including Ranjan Kumar, DGM (Electrical), Santosh Sourabh, GSM (HR), and Ramautar Chauhan, Group Senior Manager.
Addressing the gathering, Executive Councillor Altaf Hussain congratulated the winning and runner-up teams and appreciated the Kargil Football Association for successfully organising the tournament. He lauded the organisers for their dedicated efforts in promoting sports and encouraging youth participation in constructive activities.
Highlighting the importance of sports, Altaf Hussain spoke about its physical and mental health benefits while encouraging young players to pursue education alongside their sporting careers to ensure a balanced and successful future.
On the occasion, the Executive Councillor announced financial assistance from his Untied Funds, including ₹50,000 for the organising committee, ₹30,000 for the champion team, Real Lona FC, and ₹20,000 for the runner-up team, United Football Club Gongma, for the purchase of sports equipment and promotion of sporting activities.
During the programme, the organisers and players submitted memorandums highlighting the need for improved infrastructure at the Astro Turf Ground, including installation of lights, construction of toilet facilities, and other essential amenities. Responding positively, Altaf Hussain assured that the issues would be taken up with the concerned authorities for appropriate action.
Speaking on the occasion, Councillor Taisuru Mohd Hadi, who attended as the Guest of Honour, congratulated both finalist teams and appreciated the organising committee for conducting a successful tournament. He assured the sports fraternity of his full support for the development of football infrastructure and promotion of sports in the district.
The Kargil Football Association expressed sincere gratitude to the official tournament sponsor, Acme Ladakh Trade Hub, for its invaluable support in making the league a success. The Association also acknowledged the generous contributions of sponsors including Karims Kargil, Ladakh Space, R2 Enterprise, Hotel Chhutuk Heights, Hotel Royal Gasho, Zeenat Ice Cream, Hotel Maryul Kargil, and Haji Abdul Rehman Balti and Sons.
The Association further thanked the Chief Medical Officer, Kargil, for providing medical support and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kargil, for ensuring comprehensive security arrangements throughout the tournament, contributing to the safe and successful conduct of the event.
