    Kargil, July 29, 2026: The Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Kargil, Ghulam Mohd, JKAS, today chaired a review meeting to assess the status of compliance on the measures undertaken to address the menace of stray dogs and other stray animals in the district.
    The meeting was attended by the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Block Development Officer Kargil, representatives from the Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil, and officials from other concerned departments.
    During the meeting, the ADDC reviewed the progress made by the concerned departments in implementing the decisions taken during previous meetings and emphasized the need for a coordinated and sustained approach to effectively address the issue. He directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination and ensure the timely implementation of the prescribed measures.
    The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer briefed the chair on the steps being taken for the management and sterilization of stray dogs, while the representatives of the Municipal Committee Kargil apprised the meeting of the sanitation and waste management initiatives aimed at minimizing the availability of food sources that attract stray animals.
    The Chief Medical Officer informed the meeting about the availability of anti-rabies vaccines and treatment facilities in the district and stressed the importance of creating public awareness regarding the prevention and management of dog bite cases. The Chief Education Officer was instructed to conduct awareness programmes in educational institutions to educate students on safety measures and responsible behaviour around stray animals.
    The ADDC underscored the importance of scientific waste management, public awareness campaigns, and effective inter-departmental coordination to tackle the stray animal menace. He instructed all concerned departments to submit regular progress reports and ensure the implementation of the action plan in a time-bound manner to safeguard public health and safety.
    The meeting concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to strengthen coordination and take proactive measures for effectively addressing the stray dog and stray animal menace across the district
