DC Drass Conducts Extensive Tour of Matayen and Pandrass, Reviews Developmental Needs.
Drass, August 01, 2026: The Deputy Commissioner, Drass, Imteeaz Kacho conducted an extensive tour of Matayen and Pandrass villages of Drass District today to assess developmental needs and to interact directly with local residents.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by LAHDC Councillor Abdul Samad, SDM Drass Vishal Atri, Executive Engineer R&B, Executive Engineer PHE/I&FC, Executive Engineer PMGSY/REW, Block Development Officer, Block Medical Officer, Zonal Education Officer, Agriculture Extension Officer, Assistant Executive Engineer, I&FC; Block Veterinary Officer, Sheep Husbandry, Tehsil Supply Officer, Junior Engineer, PDD, besides other officials.
At Matayen, residents led by Lambardar Mohammmad Sidiq highlighted several issues and demands. The villagers sought augmentation of drinking water facilities under the Jal Jeevan Mission, installation of additional pumps to address water shortages and construction of storage tanks under Government schemes to ensure adequate water supply during the winter season. Residents also proposed the development of a trekking destination including the creation of a park and tea stalls to promote tourism and generate livelihood opportunities.
Education-related issues were also raised including the upgradation of the local Middle School and the need for addressing the shortage of teaching staff. The villagers further demanded the availability of doctors at the local health facility considering the village’s location along the National Highway and the healthcare needs of the population. Demands for a community hall, library and skill development centre were also placed before the Deputy Commissioner.
The Deputy Commissioner heard all issues and assured the villagers that genuine demands would be redressed on priority and passed on-spot instructions in respect of minor issues. He also visited the local school and reviewed the functioning of other public institutions in the village.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited Pandrass village where Lambardar Ghulam Mohammad and other villagers highlighted issues related to healthcare services, shortage of medical staff, inadequate health facilities, drinking water scarcity and poor mobile network connectivity in the area. The villagers also demanded upgradation of the local High School and the development of an ice hockey ground for local youth.
The Deputy Commissioner also visited the under-construction school building and inspected various public facilities in the village. He listened to the concerns of the residents and directed the concerned officers to examine the issues raised and take appropriate measures for their resolution. He emphasized that priority would be given to genuine public demands and assured the villagers that the administration would make every effort to address their concerns in a time-bound manner.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring balanced development and improved public service delivery in remote areas. He urged all departments to work in close coordination for the welfare of the people.
The Lambardars and residents of both villages expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and the accompanying officers for visiting the area and giving a patient hearing to their concerns.
