Joint Anti-Encroachment Drive Conducted Along Singey Namgyal Chowk–Airport Road in Leh.
Leh, August 4, 2026: A joint survey was conducted by a committee comprising representatives of the Municipal Committee (MC), Leh, the PWD (R&B) Division, and the Revenue Department to identify illegal encroachments on the public road.
Following the survey, an anti-encroachment drive was carried out on July 31 under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Leh. The drive was led by the Tehsildar, Leh, along the stretch from Singey Namgyal Chowk to Airport Road to remove unauthorised encroachments from the public road.
Subsequently, the Office of the Tehsildar, Leh, issued six notices to individuals found to have illegally encroached upon government land forming part of the public road without any lawful authority.
The notices stated that, under Section 133(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Revenue Act, the Tehsildar is empowered to summarily evict any person found in unauthorised occupation of a public road or government land. The recipients were directed to remove the illegal encroachments within the stipulated period from the date of issuance of the notices.
Accordingly, the joint committee, in coordination with the Office of the Tehsildar, Leh, successfully completed the anti-encroachment drive by removing the illegal encroachments along the identified stretch in accordance with the provisions of law.
