EJM College Hosts Inaugural Session of Seven-Day Theatre Workshop “Kahaani, Kirdaar aur Stage”.

Leh, August 6: The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, in collaboration with Charkha Development Communication Network, New Delhi, today inaugurated a seven-day theatre workshop titled “Kahaani, Kirdaar aur Stage”. The workshop aims to introduce students to the art of storytelling, character development, and stage performance while nurturing creativity and communication skills through theatre.
The inaugural session was graced by Senior Professor Zahoor Hussain as the Chief Guest. The Charkha Development Communication Network delegation was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Chetna Verma.
The sessions will be conducted by Rajesh Nirmal, an independent writer, theatre director, and recipient of several national and international awards. Sharing his thoughts with the participants, Nirmal described theatre as a living art that connects people through stories and emotions. He encouraged students to observe their surroundings, draw inspiration from real-life experiences, and use theatre as a platform to express ideas and bring positive change in society. The focus of the workshop is to strengthen leadership skills among young people through theatre.
Addressing the gathering, Charkha’s Programme Manager Ananya Vasishtha, reflected on the organisation’s association with EJM College since 2023, during which Charkha has conducted workshops on writing, photography, stop-motion animation, puppetry, scriptwriting, graphic narratives, and documentary filmmaking.
Faculty members and students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism attended the inaugural programme with great enthusiasm. The week-long workshop will feature practical sessions on storytelling, script development, character creation, voice and body language, improvisation, and stage performance. Participants will also engage in interactive theatre exercises designed to build confidence, creativity, and collaborative skills, culminating in a final stage presentation at the end of the workshop.
