DC Drass holds interactions with operators of carpentry businesses and restaurant/ eateries.
Drass, August 7, 2026: The Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho today held an interaction with carpenters, wood-work business operators and stakeholders to discuss the development of the carpentry sector, promotion of traditional skills and the importance of maintaining cleanliness at work spaces.
The meeting was attended by Naib Tehsildar (HQ), Mohammad Ibrahim; Lambardar Ranbirpora, Sadiq Ali and representatives of the local carpentry business operators.
During the interaction, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the dedication and craftsmanship of all carpenters and encouraged them to continue preserving and enhancing their skills. He emphasized, that along with maintaining high standards of workmanship, special attention should also be given to cleanliness and proper waste management at workplaces.
The DC urged local youth to learn carpentry and other traditional skills, describing them as valuable sources of livelihood and self-employment. He noted that mastering such skills certainly require patience, hard work and commitment but can open up significant opportunities for sustainable income and entrepreneurship.
Highlighting the role of modern technology, the Deputy Commissioner advised carpenters to make greater use of digital tools, computers and modern design techniques to improve the quality of their work and expand their business prospects. He stated that adopting innovative ideas and contemporary designs can help local artisans remain competitive and meet evolving market demands.
The Deputy Commissioner also stressed the importance of environmental responsibility. He advised carpenters not to dispose of wood waste and other leftover material into rivers, streams, or drainage channels and appealed to them to keep their surroundings clean and maintain a healthy environment.
The participants thanked the district administration for its support and assured the Deputy Commissioner of their commitment to improving their skills, adopting better work practices and contributing towards a cleaner and more prosperous Drass.
Later on, officials of BSNL-Kargil called on the Deputy Commissioner to discuss issues related to land allotment and brief him about the status of ongoing works, mobile phone and internet connectivity. The Deputy Commissioner urged them to expedite the works of strengthening and upgrading connectivity as people in various corners of Drass are still not able to receive OPTs for acquiring ration and LPG cylinders.
The Deputy Commissioner had held a discussion with operators of restaurants and small eateries in Drass yesterday to discuss their operations and to devise mechanisms to keep their surrounding neat and clean. Tehsildar (HQ) Abdul Aziz and the President of the Market Association Mehrajuddin were also present on the occasion. They were directed to form small groups of shopkeepers in the entire market to manage and dispose garbage within their designated territories. The need to keeping vigil on the use of single-use plastic and prohibiting littering was reiterated during the interaction.
