Movie Screening of ‘Main Wapas Aaunga’ Held at GDC Nobra.

As part of the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day observed in the country on 14th of August, Government Degree College (GDC) Nobra organized a special screening of Imtiaz Ali’s film Main Wapas Aaunga on 14 August 2026 at the college seminar hall. The screening was organized to create awareness among students about the history and human experiences associated with the Partition of India.
Main Wapas Aaunga, directed by renowned filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, is a Partition-era romantic drama featuring Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari and Vedang Raina. Set against the backdrop of pre-Partition India and the events surrounding 1947, the film explores themes of love, memory, displacement, loss and the longing for home.
The film presents Partition not only as a historical event but also as a deeply personal experience whose memories and emotional scars continue across generations. At its heart, it is a story of homecoming and the enduring human desire to return to the people and places one has lost. Imtiaz Ali has drawn inspiration from accounts and memories of people who lived through Partition, focusing particularly on their memories, tenderness and longing.
The screening provided students with an opportunity to reflect on the human cost of Partition and the importance of peace, harmony, compassion and unity. It also encouraged them to engage with history through cinema and understand how the memories of the past continue to shape contemporary society.
The programme formed an integral part of the college’s Independence Day celebrations, reinforcing the values of freedom, national integration and communal harmony.
