    A five-day Warden Training Programme for Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya (NSCBAV) Hostels commenced today at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, with the objective of strengthening the professional capacities of wardens and enhancing the quality of hostel management and support systems for students. The programme is being organised by the School Education Department, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with the concerned authorities, and will run from 17th to 21st August 2026 at DIET Leh.
    The inaugural session witnessed the presence of Shri Ram Niwas, Under Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Shri Ashok Burdak, Assistant Section Officer, Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was also graced by Prof. Santwana G. Mishra, Project Director, NIEPA, New Delhi, along with distinguished resource persons Dr. Sandhya Vaid, Dr. Rashmi Chauhan, and Dr. Manvendra Tripathi. The dignitaries were formally welcomed by Sh. S.D. Namgail, Principal DIET Leh, with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the objectives and significance of the training programme by Sh. Mukhtar Hussain, State Nodal Officer, Kargil.
    Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries emphasised the important role of wardens in ensuring a safe, supportive, inclusive, and child-friendly environment in residential educational institutions. The training is intended to provide participants with opportunities for professional learning, experience sharing, and developing effective approaches towards hostel management and the overall well-being of students. The workshop also featured video messages from Sh.Sanjay Kumar, Former Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India, Smt. Archana Sharma Awasthi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education,Government of India, and Prof. Shashikala Wanjari, Vice Chancellor, NIEPA, New Delhi.
    The presence of eminent experts from NIEPA and other institutions is expected to enrich the programme through their expertise, interactive sessions, and practical insights. The five-day training will provide a platform for wardens to enhance their professional competencies and share experiences and best practices. The initiative reflects the commitment of the School Education Department, UT Ladakh, towards strengthening residential schooling facilities and ensuring that students residing in KGBV and NSCBAV hostels receive a safe, caring, and enabling environment conducive to their holistic development. The inaugural session concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming sessions and learning opportunities throughout the programme, which will continue till August 21, 2026, at DIET Leh.
