Drass, August 21, 2026: As part of the three-day Self Defence Workshop being organised by Govt. Degree College Drass under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) Gender Inclusive Equity Initiative scheme, self-defence sensitisation sessions were conducted today at Government Higher Secondary School Bhimbhat and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Bhimbet.
The morning session at GHSS Bhimbhat and the evening session at KGBV Bhimbhat provided students with practical training in basic self-defence techniques, situational awareness and personal safety. The sessions were conducted by internationally acclaimed resource persons Ritesh Tiwari and Mana Mandelkar, who demonstrated various techniques and encouraged the students to develop confidence, alertness and the ability to respond effectively in challenging situations.
Alongside the self-defence training, an awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was also conducted in collaboration with the Tribal Research Institute, University of Ladakh. The programme sensitised students about the harmful effects of substance abuse, the importance of making informed and healthy choices, and the need for collective responsibility in creating a drug-free society.
Around 100 students participated in the self-defence and awareness programmes held at the two institutions. The Principal & Warden of both institutions appreciated the initiative of Govt. Degree College Drass and commended the college for organising such meaningful programmes aimed at empowering students, particularly young women, with skills and awareness for their safety and well-being.
